Auro 2088

   Auro 2088

By Dario and Roan

As the cold morning breeze blew, Auro held onto the tree while his black trench coat was swaying in the wind, waiting for his friend Ren to arrive and bring the bag of supplies that they needed for their sinister plan. Auro lived for millions of years on Earth 483, until those nasty creatures came and took over the land; humans have been bothering him ever since the dawn of time. The only human he trusted was Ren.

“Hey Auro, I am here. I have gloves and masks. I’ve got everything,” called Ren as he came into view from the canopy.

Auro was surprised by how swift his friend was. He barely even heard him come. “You ready, you got everything?” Auro asked, trying to hide the annoyance in his voice. He never liked being surprised, like the day those nasty creatures surprised him with the invasion.

“Yup. Did you like my sneakiness?” Ren asked, being the bright human he always was.

Auro jumped off the tree, an exercise he had done so many times that it was easy for him to climb and jump off. “Okay then, what are we waiting for?” They quickly left for the dense forest, waiting for the daily patrol to come. The daily patrol had all of the authorization to enter the military base where Colonel Thursbery was. They needed the commander, he had important knowledge of where the US president was going to be next.

Auro and Ren climbed to the middle of a redwood tree, looking down for any trace of the patrol, a beautiful forest in front of them with birds flying and singing. Then in the distance, they started hearing shuffling. Looking up, they realized it was just a bird. But below them, they heard a voice talking about food. By their thick raspy voice, Auro and Ren knew that they were part of the patrol. Immediately, they were tense.

“Hey look at this-,” said the deep voice. But before he could say more, Auro was on him, knocking him unconscious, and using that as a distraction, Ren knocked the others unconscious as well.

“Okay, let's go to Fort Bucklesberry. The Colonel will be there, so we can get the valuable information about the President,” Auro said, already hotwiring the army humvee. “For a military truck, it's pretty easy to hotwire.” Auro connected a few wires with different labels.

Ren was tense knowing the wrong wire could make the gas explode killing him and Auro.

First the wire with the label W36RBA was stripped, getting rid of the wire’s outer shell. Then he brushed it with a wire called M9HAF02, this started the engine.

“Quick, let's steer through the trees fast. The Colonel won't be there for long-,” said Ren, and before he could say more, Auro was already speeding through the trees and going straight to the base.

Before long, they were on the outskirts of the base watching the security guards check in a tank from the only entrance to the base, a camouflage pattern covering it making it look almost invisible when in the forest.

“Okay let's go, you have the disguises right Ren?” Auro asked.

“Yup,” he said. He pulled out the military clothes, and they both changed. They drove down to the gate. Ren was nervous, but Auro was confident as he rolled down the window.

“Hello sir, we are done with our patrol. We need access to the base,” Auro said, acting a little fidgety, and unnerved.

“Identification?” said the tall, burly guard. The guard had a skull on the side of its helmet and the sign of a special ops shoulder patch. As he pulled open the bulletproof glass, a thick stench blew over them, and Auro thought he saw specks of blood on the other wall.

“We are Troop 23, let us in guard!” pushed Auro.

“No can do, you don’t have the rest of your troop, where did they go-” the guard denied.

“SIR, code Superior 364527345!” Auro yelled as Ren fidgeted.

“Oh, sorry soldiers. immediately,” the guard said. Auro and Ren heard the screech of the metal and the rumbling of the concrete as the gate opened.

“Were in,” said Ren, knowing that he had taken Auro’s line. He wanted to get him mad and trying not to laugh or let out a snicker.

“TROOP 23!” a loud voice boomed. “Get in line for inspection, I hear you used the panic code so you better have a good reason why!” A large officer with a pistol in hand walked into the courtyard with a rusted badge, signifying that he had been an officer for a long time.“YOU BETTER HAVE A GOOD REASON WHY YOU USED THAT CODE!” he continued.

“Yes sir we have a really good reason you see,” said Auro knowing he needed to be confident. “Subject 001 knocked out the rest of our squad with his companion, Subject 002. We are the only ones that got away, we drove here as fast as possible” (Subject 001 and Subject 002 were just names that the military and other federal organizations used to address Ren and Auro).

“Okay you have the day off, go to your rooms and relax. I know you were close to those soldiers,” said the officer, then he turned and left. Auro and Ren felt the rush of adrenaline slowly subside. They took a quick breather before they continued on their mission.

After that stressful encounter, Auro and Ren climbed up the trees thinking that they wouldn't talk for the rest of this operation, knowing that silence was key for the stealth mission. From the top of the trees, Auro saw a lid with a label reading “Air Ventilation” on the ground. Auro quickly slid down the tree, Ren close behind him. The lid was probably their best chance at getting into the headquarters.

Auro cautiously opened the lid and let Ren go through the hole first. Soon Auro followed, close bye descending into the dark hole, closing the lid behind him, and making the ventilation shaft dark. But Ren was prepared, he gave Auro a flashlight and both of them turned on their illuminating flashlights. Allowing them to see the tunnel. “

Why was this tunnel so big? Auro wondered.

As they continued to descend the tunnel, they heard a growling voice flow towards them! They crawled through the eerie tunnels and soon realized the voices of the commander. Suddenly, they heard some clambering in the tunnels. Someone was there with them. They raced to hide behind a corner of shadows, but they were too late. The guard spotted them and called for them to stop, but they didn’t. The guard quickly crawled to them, but Ren and Auro were ready.

Auro led the first strike. He tried to knock him out by banging on his head, but the helmet blocked the impact. The guard did not notice Ren. Ren snuck behind the guard and stabbed him with a needle to make the guard fall. As he fell to the ground, his taser fell out of his holster, discharging and hitting Ren in the ankle, shocking him.

This was Auro’s time.

He used his healing power, shooting lightning bolts out of his hands. A beautiful crimson red poured out from Auro he let out a soft grunt for the effort. Ren jolted up; he seemed completely unphased, but there was no time they needed to keep going.

Soon, they found an opening in the ceiling and blew the hatch out of its frame. They jumped down. There was the colonel, all by himself. But before they could even blink the colonel blew up.

The explosion knocked Auro and Ren down the vents, Auro’s head echoing as he hit the sides. The hot explosion felt like lava was on Auro as he felt like he was burning all over himself, knocking the hatch with him. Auro looked out, saw Ren, and teleported them home.

The compound descended into panic. Everyone was running around, not knowing what to do. Some deserted, and some just tried to take the position. A few reported it to the news.

The news went viral. Eveywone on the Social Media was talking saying thay the country was not safe I mean You literally could not look at any TV channel other than with the header: “Fake Colonel Blows Up.” Researchers believe that it was a robot that must have blown up with a trigger. But the question remains:  What was the trigger?

“What do we do? It won't be long before they get fingerprints,” said Ren, worrying while looking at the TV.

“They won’t. I changed the print on your gloves last night,” Auro responded.

“Really, oh my god thank you so much!” Ren said, getting ready to hug him, but then rethought it after Auro glared at him.

“It doesn’t matter. What matters is that a new commanding officer is said to arrive in the base in three days,” Auro snaps

“Really?” says Ren. “Who is it?”

“General Bresdeth,” Auro whispered ominously.
