The Salem Witch Hunt

The Salem Witch Hunt

By Luke Hunter

If you like demons and the devil get ready to revel in  the moment with this book. Violence, anger, and vengeance occurs throughout the play. The Crucible was written by Arthur Miller and published in 1953 to portray a Salem witch hunt. Abigail, describe character,  tried to be the victim in every situation, blaming all of her actions on other innocent people, which always gains her something.

Abigail is one of the most evil characters because she is always trying to get people in trouble. Abigail was talking to John Proctor, and was getting frustrated because John was saying that himself was loyal to Elizabeth, his wife, but Abigail and John were once lovers, so she is mad that he is moving on. Abigail at this point was telling John about the good times, and she said, “I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever you came near ”(p. 21). This bit of evidence shows that the whole reason she was framing people to begin with was because she was madly in love with John Proctor. Since he was trying to move on and have a loving marriage with Elizabeth, Abigail tried to portray herself as the victim by trying to make John feel guilty about his action so she can get back together with him.

Abigail is a very self centered character because she only cares about things that have a good effect on her. In this next scene Hale is asking Abigail questions, and if she does not answer them correctly she could be in big trouble. She is lying by saying no to all of the questions. Then, Hale takes Tituba aside and asks her some of the same questions to see if Abigail was lying. Abigail knows she is going to get caught and immediately tries to save herself by accusing Tituba, “She made me do it” (p. 40). This shows that Abigail knew she was in the mud and tried to bring someone else down with her. This shows that she was always thinking about blaming people even if they didn’t do anything. She lied and tried to get people in trouble to save herself.

Abigail  blaming people for her actions isn't a recent thing and that she has done it multiple times before. Elizabeth and Abigail are in court together and Elizabeth is trying to defend  herself, pointing at Abigail while saying, “This girl has always struck me false”(p.106). This evidence shows that Elizabeth doesnt trust Abigail for things she ahs down in the past.. She also doesn't care if anybody gets hurt along the way.

Abigail is always trying to blame other people for her mistakes in life. Some of the closest people in your life could just be trying to ruin it.
